Sophie Montagne and Team in the Antarctic

A talk by Sophie Montagne

a ticketed event from the Jo Walters Trust

18th November 2021 7.30pm

We are hugely excited to be starting our series of online lectures with a talk by Sophie Montagne who was part of a team that crossed the Antarctic, breaking 3 world records. A friend of Jo's at university, Sophie is a very inspiring speaker and we are extremely grateful to her for giving up her time to share her adventure.

Sophie Montagne was part of the first female team, Ice Maiden, to ski across the Antarctic continent, coast-to-coast and using muscle power alone. The six Ice Maidens, all of whom are serving in the Regular British Army or Army Reserve. skied a total of 1,704km, battling temperatures as low as -56C and storms with wind speeds in excess of 100kph. Setting off on the 20th November 2017 and crossing the finish line on 20th January 2018, their unsupported journey was expected to take 75 days, but finished an astonishing 14 days ahead of schedule in 'just' 61 days.

Join us for what we know will be a riveting talk by Sophie to on the 18th of November. Tickets are £5 and can be bought on the JWT website. The talk will last approx 45 mins with 15 mins of Q&A afterwards.
